Kim Cattrall details life after ‘SATC’ out of the country: Samantha ‘wasn’t me’

Kim Cattrall is opening up about her life post-Samantha Jones.

The “Sex and the City” alum, 69, admitted that “every day is a little bit different” since wrapping the hit HBO series more than 20 years ago during an interview with People published Monday.

“I have a home on Vancouver Island, which is my hideaway and basically my paradise because I’m right in the middle of nature,” she shared.

“It’s long walks. It’s reading books I’ve never had the time to read – or reread. I love women’s fiction. It’s more solitary, just me and my partner,” Cattrall, who has been dating Russell Thomas since 2016, added.

However, Vancouver Island isn’t the only place the “Police Academy” alum has retreated to since “Sex and the City” ended. She regularly visits England and the Big Apple as well.

“I also spend time in London, which is a great deal of where I’ve been the last 15, 20 years,” she said. “And then there’s New York City, which will always be in my heart.”

As for her career, Cattrall admitted that she now spends more time focusing on herself rather than any one particular role.

“I think it defines me less,” she explained. “Kim has taken over, and not the characters she’s played, in a very definite way. The last 10 years have been more about exploring me, not connected to my work, but my own choices.”

Cattrall starred in “Sex and the City” alongside Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) from its premiere in 1998 to its finale in 2004.

Although she returned to star in both “Sex and the City” films in 2008 and 2010, Cattrall did not reprise her role in the recently ended “And Just Like That” except for a brief cameo during the spinoff’s Season 2 finale.

“I remember in particular, doing that series, people wanted to speak to the character as opposed to me because she was fascinating, wonderful, smart and intelligent, and sexy and irreverent and all of those wonderful things that we could be,” Cattrall said of her role as the sex-positive public relations boss Samantha Jones.

“But she wasn’t me,” Cattrall added.

Meanwhile, the “Mannequin” star is still acting after the “Sex and the City” franchise has ended – even if she does have a few conditions before signing on for new projects.

“It’s all about the writing. I don’t want to be on a set and realize that the character I’m playing is a character that I’ve already played many, many times before,” Cattrall explained.

“I can take elements of those characters that I’ve played before and make them part of me – part of my imagination – as I play this new character,” she added.

The “Porky’s” actress went on to tease two new roles she is currently working on, although she remained hush-hush about what they entail.

“I’ve got two dream projects in development right now, and they’re really good,” she shared. “Two very different characters, but just a blast to play. I’m saying yes to what challenges me.”
